Intramitochondrial Glycogen Particles in Rat Retinal Receptor Cells

چکیده
In t rami tochondr ia l granules or bodies have been described by many investigators in various cell types. Al though the advanced techniques of electron microscopy in general have clarified the existence of several types of in t rami tochondr ia l components , and in some cases even their chemical characteristics (1, 2), the chemical na ture of most such substances is still unknown. Dur ing this electron microscope study of the normal ra t retina, a new type of particle was noted within the mi tochondr ia of the receptor cells. These in t rami tochondr ia l particles, unlike any of the known types, appear to be similar to .glycogen particles morphologically as well as histochemically. This note reports in t rami tochondr ial glycogen particles in ra t ret inal cells, and the identification of glycogen in a tissue section at the electron microscope level.

Intramitochondrial Glycogen Granules in Digestive Cells of Hydra
Digestive cells of hydra contain accumulations of irregular particles, 200 to 300 A in diameter and of low density, that stain with lead hydroxide (11). These particles were observed in clear areas of hyaloplasm and were often partially or completely enclosed by mitochondria. Similar dense particles in the hyaloplasm of digestive cells have been identified as glycogen (7, 16), although no assoc...

متن کاملMorphological changes in injured retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptor cells after transplantation of stem cells into subretinal space
Introduction: Degenerative retinal diseases are main cause of irreversible blindness. Stem cells therapy is a promising way in these diseases. Therefore, mesenchymal stem cells because of its safety can produce degenerated cells and can play important role in treatment. The aim of this study was to examine morphological changes in injured retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptor cells...
متن کاملGestational diabetes influences retinal Muller cells in rat's offspring
Objective(s): The Muller cell is the principal glial cell of the vertebrate retina. The expression of Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in the Muller cells was used as a cellular marker for retinal damage. This study was done to evaluate the effect of gestational diabetes on retinal Muller cells in rat's offspring. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 12 Wistar rat dams were ...
